Ranging

Description

The ranging application creates an uncoordinated link between 2 devices. In ranging applications, the time of flight is used to measure the distance between two devices whose roles are fixed as Initiator and Responder. See the Ranging Core documentation and the SR1000 API for more details.

Behavior

A ranging measurement is done with multiple data exchanges. The number of exchanges is set to 24 but this is user configurable. For each exchange, 4 frames, including replies are transmitted between the two devices. The Responder is actively listening and is ready to reply to an incoming ranging request from the Initiator. The devices engage in an exchange every 10 ms. This is an arbitrary delay. For that reason, 240 ms is needed to get one distance measurement. Once the measurement is available, the Initiator will display it through its USB interface, allowing the user to assess the accuracy of the distance measurement.

Configuration

Host terminal configuration should be as follows:

  • Speed (baud): 115200

  • Data bits: 8

  • Stop bit: 1

  • Parity: None

  • Flow control: None
